SCDF compliant digital locks are models certified for fire resistance, shown on a Certificate of Conformity (CoC). On a fire-rated door, the lock’s fire rating must also match or beat the door’s. No brand is compliant by default, so check the exact model.
Which Digital Locks Are SCDF Compliant?
Any model with a valid CoC that suits your door’s rating. SCDF says a lock can be certified together with the door or on its own, whatever the brand. SCDF doesn’t certify products itself, so “SCDF-approved” claims are false. CoCs come from independent certification bodies.

Do I Need an SCDF Compliant Digital Lock on My Door?
Only if your door is fire-rated. Since 1996, the Fire Code has required selected HDB main doors, such as those facing fire escape routes, to be fire-rated.
Since 1 March 2024, any digital lock on a fire door must be fire-certified. To tell if yours is one:
- Look for a serial label near the hinges. It states the rating, such as 30 or 60 minutes.
How Do I Check If a Digital Lock Is SCDF Compliant?
Ask the seller for the CoC. “It’s fire-rated” isn’t enough.
- Find your door’s rating. Read the label near the hinges. SCDF, Digital Locksets on Fire-rated Doors
- Match brand and model. The names printed on the CoC must match the lock you are buying.
- Match the rating. The lock’s rating must be at least as high as the door’s. A 60-minute lock suits a 30-minute door, not the reverse.
- Check the details. The CoC should show the test standard (SS 332 or EN 1634-1) and a mechanical fail-safe, so you can still leave if the battery dies.
What If My Old Digital Lock Isn’t Certified?
SCDF encourages homeowners to replace an uncertified lock fitted to a residential fire door before 1 March 2024. An uncertified lock may affect the door’s ability to slow fire spread.
What Should I Know Before Installation?
- Keep the door closer. It keeps the door shut in a fire. HDB says it must not be removed, and voids its warranty if its lock is fitted without one. Door closers need their own CoC too. See HDB door closer guide.
- Check door thickness. Not every lock suits every door. Talk to us about your door thickness and digital lock compatibility, and we’ll help you choose the right fit.
- Keep your paperwork. File the CoC and receipt.
This isn’t legal advice. Confirm current rules with SCDF or HDB.
